CORRECT OPERATION

CV joints must be able to transmit drive shaft rotation through a 20° vertical angle, due to suspension movement, and a 50° horizontal angle, due to steering movement.

A front wheel drive car has four CV joints: two inboard and two outboard. The inboard CV joints are connected to the transaxle. The outboard CV joints are connected to the wheels. CV joint rubber boots are used to prevent leakage of lubricant or its contamination by dust or dirt.
